Afternoon Tea

On Saturday 11th June forty five people gathered at Cross Street Church for an Afternoon Tea to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  The Minister, Andrew Calvert, said grace and prayed for the Queen, Liz Nicosia read a brief account of how the custom of “afternoon tea” began and then the feast began.  The 3 tier cake stands were filled with a variety of sandwiches, cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam.  The refreshments were prepared by Sarah Baylay, Sabrina Burton, Alison Bond, Bethany Nicosia and June Simcox and the Church was decorated with union jack flags,  buntings and balloons by Andrew and Karen Calvert.  After the refreshments there was  royal quiz and the team that won the prizes were Steve and Julia Tagell and Karen Calvert who went home with a set of commemorative stamps.  Everyone who attended was presented with a copy of the book “The Servant Queen”.  A grant of £100 from the Cheshire East Council subsidised the cost of the celebration.
